cannot say, was there already in Ubuntu 7.10 kernel 2.6.22-10.30
and if i recall correctly also in the Ubuntu 7.04 kernel
and is still there in vanilla 2.6.23.11

When plugging in the Samsung CLP-300 usb printer it works only if connected to
an old external USB 1.1 hub

If connected to the USB 2.0 hubs of the Asus motherboard directly it doesn't
work properly
